US bishops issue bulletin against same-sex marriage (This is too late)
10 July 2015 17:00 by Michael Sean Winters
The US bishops’ conference is distributing a bulletin insert in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to legalise same-sex marriage nationwide. “The Supreme Court has tragically declared that states must issue marriage licenses to two persons of the same sex and recognise same-sex ‘marriages’ that were contracted in another state,” the notice begins. “This broad, adverse ruling redefines marriage in the law throughout the entire country, changing thousands of laws regarding marriage, family and children and threatening religious freedom in numerous ways.   (Na today? Religious freedom was already threatened from when the church sat idle by and let the government kick prayer and the bible out of schools)
“Regardless of what a narrow majority of the Supreme Court may declare at this moment in history, the nature of the human person and marriage remains unchanged and unchangeable.”
The notice is signed by Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, President of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Critics noted that the insert did not mention the teaching of the Catechism, that gays and lesbians are to be treated with respect. “Nowhere in the statement do we see the love of humanity joined with respect for the individual that we see coming from Pope Francis,” said Fred Rotondaro, chairman of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, a progressive Catholic advocacy group. “Nowhere do we see concern for doctrine tempered with a nuanced understanding of individual needs that were present in statements by Cardinal [Donald] Wuerl and Archbishop [Blase] Cupich. The bishops’ conference, as always, echoes doctrine without even attempting to understand the dignity and often the anguish of the struggling soul.”
Meanwhile the bishops of Iowa, the first caucus in the presidential nominating process, have interjected Pope Francis’ environmental encyclical Laudato si’ into presidential politics. Bishop Richard Pates of Des Moines, Iowa, said at an event for the Catholic Climate Covenant in Iowa: “We have a unique opportunity to keep the issue of climate change on the front burner.” Bishop Martin Amos of Davenport began the press conference with a prayer taken from Laudato si’.
Lonnie Ellis, who organized the event, told the Tablet, “We need to change the political conversation because our inaction has moral consequences. While the science on climate change has moved toward more and more clarity over the past several years, US politics on climate has moved in the opposite direction.”

President and Vice cut their salaries by 50%

I would have said that this was unbelievable but knowing the characters involved in this makes it rather difficult for me to feel surprised.

GMB upon retirement refused to take anything more that 10 percent (correct me if I'm wrong) of his pension stating that the total sum was just too much! Yet other past leaders kept collecting their "too much" pensions.

In 2010, Nigerian workers went on strike demanding and increase in their wages. They demanded a 25% increase in wages but the government claimed there was no money. Eventually, the workers were given a 7% increase whilst the bastards in the senate awarded themselves 300% increase in wages. Nigerian workers were dumbfounded but did nothing about it.

So Buhari  and his VP cutting their salaries by 50% tells you that they really mean to cut the excesses.

Read on.

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, will only receive 50 per cent of the salary paid to their predecessors, a government source said on Friday.

According to a statement by a spokesman to the President, Garba Shehu, the President’s decision to take a 50 per cent pay cut was conveyed to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Thursday by the Permanent Secretary of the State House, Mr Nebolisa Emodi.
“I write to forward the completed IPPIS registration form of Mr President and to draw your kind attention to Mr. President’s directive that only 50% of his salary be paid to him,” Mr Emodi wrote in the letter.
The current annual remuneration of the President of Nigeria, as published by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, is 14,058,820.00 Naira (about $70,000).
Earlier on Friday, President Buhari turned down a proposal to buy new cars for his use, saying that he would stick to the vehicles former President Goodluck Jonathan left behind.
The proposal from the Aso Rock bureaucracy is for Buhari to approve the purchase of five customised armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars of about 400 million Naira.
It was learnt that President Buhari rejected the proposal on Wednesday when he received briefings from the Permanent Secretary (State House), Mr Nebolisa Emodi.
He had during his campaign promised to cut down cost of governance in the face of low crude oil price since the nation depends more on crude exportation for revenue.

Buhari Rejects 400 Million Naira Cars

I am really surprised that this piece actually made the news. Nigerians know Buhari is not one to indulge in wasteful spending. This is a man who gave back to the government treasury monies left over from what was allocated to him for his travel abroad to attend some training courses. He also did not forget to collect a receipt indicating that he refunded the leftover cash.

Anyway read the story about the cars as reported in the news.

It was learnt that President Buhari rejected the proposal on Wednesday when he received briefings from the Permanent Secretary (State House), Mr Nebolisa Emodi.
The President has been receiving briefings from permanent secretaries since the beginning of the week on the activities of the ministries.
He directed that the proposal, which was first made to ex-President Jonathan, be dropped.
Jonathan had advised that the plan be left for Buhari to approve since it was made in the twilight of his administration and the cars would not be due for delivery until after he might have left the office.
Buhari, according to sources, told the Permanent Secretary that the cars left behind by the Jonathan administration were good enough for him.
He, however, approved the plan of the Permanent Secretary to reduce the operating costs of the State House and strengthen its Finance and Accounts Internal Control Mechanisms.

Buhari told him to capture all State House expenses within the approved budget to avoid the frequent recourse to “Presidential Intervention Funds” as this was rampant in the last administration.
The man knows that previous Nigerian leaders were spending and stealing the resources that ought to be laid up for future generations. There has been little to no development in Nigeria for the 16 years of the PDP.
The PDP was only there to loot and destroy Nigeria and Obasanja was their main leader. The came in to power broke and left as a billionaire.
